Online resources: Summary: "William Liebknecht was one of Germany's most respected working-class leaders of the 19th century. An outstanding organizer and revolutionary--responsible with August Bebel for the formation of the German Social-Democratic Party in 1869--he took part in Paris street fighting of 1848 and the Baden insurrection the following year. It was soon after this the Liebknecht was forced to flee to London and it was there that his close friendship with Marx and Engels developed. For some twelve years he was almost a daily visitor to the Marx household in Dean street, and it is his memories of this friendship with Marx that are recorded in these 'Biographical Memoirs'. Their vitality and warmth springs from an association of two men who, in different ways, devoted their entire lives to the international working-class movement and socialism. During the years following 1862, which were spent in the midst of Germany's working-class struggles, Liebknecht maintained a continuous correspondence with the Marx family-- only to end with his own death in 1900." --from the book jacket
