This book is intended to be the first in a series of biographies of the heroes of peace. It is my intention to bring before the minds of the children of the world a new set of human values. The education thus far has been based on militarism and on the exploitation of the weak by the strong. By means of these biographies I hope, in my humble way, to begin to build a foundation for a new type of education, --an education based upon peace and upon the mutual cooperation of the citizens of all the nations toward the building of a better world."
