Summary: "This book is intended primarily as a supplement for collegiate courses in labor. it consists principally of outstanding articles selected from leading economic journals. The editor has not hesitated to include controversial papers, but he has excluded the more difficult articles that might well be found in a group of readings for the professional economist. The articles from economic journals have been supplemented by descriptive material from the Monthly Labor Review and be a few thought-provoking papers that were written originally for lay consumption. All articles are reprinted in their entirety in order to preclude misrepresentation. "As a group, the papers represent the recent tendency to emphasize 'labor economics' rather then 'labor problems." Also apparent here is the growing recognition of collective bargaining as a subject of special importance in the whole field of labor ...." -- from author's preface
