Preface -- Chapter I. The measurement of labour conditions -- Chapter II. Labour conditions in England -- Chapter III. Labour conditions in Germany -- Chapter IV. Labour conditions in France -- Labour conditions in western Europe.
"The first part of this book is a rather long theoretical introduction into the study of labour conditions in Western Europe. It purports to give a survey of the methods of measuring labour conditions. The four following parts deal with actual labour conditions in England, Germany, and France since 1820. These chapters combined do not take more space than the theoretical introduction. And most of the things to which attention is called in the first part are neglected in the rest of the book, because the statistical material available does not permit their being taken into consideration." -- From the preface.
